What is Pexsig used for?
Pexsig 100mg tablets (Perhexiline maleate) is used to reduce the frequency of moderate to severe angina pectoris, which is chest pain caused by heart disease. This medication is typically prescribed when other treatments for angina are not sufficient.
How does Pexsig work?
Pexsig 100mg tablets belong to a class of medications know as anti-anginal agents. It improves the efficiency of the heart and enhances blood flow through the following mechanisms:
1. Energy Metabolism: It shifts the heart's metabolism from fatty acids to glucose, which is more efficient and requires less oxygen.
2. Vasodilation: PEXSIG may widen blood vessels, increasing blood flow to the heart and reducing the workload (afterload) on the heart.
3. Myocardial Perfusion: It helps maintain adequate blood supply to the heart muscle during angina episodes.
4. Heart Rhythm Regulation: It can stabilize electrical activity in the heart, which may help prevent arrhythmias.
What does Pexsig contain?
Pexsig 100mg Tablets contain the active ingredient Perhexiline maleate. Pexsig tablets also contain the inactive ingredient Lactose, starch (maize), Sucrose, and Purified talc. This tablet does not contain preservatives, gluten or Azo dyes.
What are the side effects of Pexsig?
The most common side effects reported while taking Pexsig 100mg tablets include: Dizziness or a Drunken Sensation, Nausea, Vomiting, Headache, Unsteadiness, Lack of Appetite, Moderate Weight Loss (2 to 4 kg), Temporary Increases in Liver Enzymes, Increased Blood Fats, Moderate Decreases in Blood Sugar, Changes in ECG (Electrocardiogram).
When should Pexsig not be used?
You should not use Pexsig 100mg tablets if you have the following:
1. Liver Disease: If you have any form of liver impairment.
2. Kidney Disease: If you have significant kidney problems.
3. Allergic Reactions: If you have a history of unusual or allergic reactions to PEXSIG or any of its ingredients.
4. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, unless advised by your doctor.
Can you take Pexsig with other medicines?
You should inform your doctor about any other medicines you take, including medicines purchased without prescription. There are several medications which may affect the way Pexsig works such as Beta-blockers (used for heart conditions and high blood pressure), and Anti-diabetics (used to treat diabetes). Your doctor may still want you to take these other medicines but may need to adjust the dose of them or take other precautions.
How should Pexsig be Taken?
You can take your Pexsig 100mg tablet with or without food, generally once or twice daily. Your doctor will determine your dosage based on your condition and how you respond to Pexsig. Typically, the dosage should not exceed three tablets per day, although in some cases, four tablets daily may be necessary. Do not take more tablets than your doctor recommends. Some patients may require a lower dose. Pexsig100 mg tablets can be split in half, providing a 50 mg dose in each half.
How long should you use Pexsig?
You should take your Pexsig 100mg tablets every day for as long as your doctor recommends.
Missed dose of Pexsig?
If you missed a dose of Pexsig 100mg tablets take it as soon as you remember and then go back to taking it as you would normally unless its time to take the next dose. Skip the missed dose and take the next dose, do not take a double dose.
How should Pexsig be stored?
You should store your Pexsig 100mg tablets in a cool dry place below 30 degrees Celsius/ 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep Tablets in the pack and out of reach from children and pets.
