Flusapex general information
What is Flusapex used for?
Flusapex tablets 40mg are used to treat oedema in cats, dogs, horses and cattle to reduce fluid build up in the tissues associated with several conditions including, congestive heart failure, pulmonary oedema, udder oedema, Iocalised oedema associated with surgery or trauma. Flusapex tablets 40mg are also used to treat physiological parturient oedema of the mammary gland and associated structures in cattle. Flusapex tablets 40mg are suitable for meat cattle as there is no meat withholding period.
How does Flusapex work?
Flusapex tablets 40mg contain frusemide, a diuretic medication that acts directly on the kidneys to help remove fluid that has built up in the tissues and causes oedema. Frusemide in Flusapex tablets 40mg works at the site of the Loop of Henlé in the kidneys, which is where salts (sodium and potassium ions) are reabsorbed back into the blood to prevent the blood from becoming deficient in salts. Frusemide in Flusapex tablets 40mg inhibits the reabsorption of salts back into the blood, so that more salts are excreted into the urine and more water is removed from the blood, which increases the volume of urine that is produced and draws more water out of the tissues. Reducing the amount of water stored in the tissues reduces oedema (water retention and swelling), caused by congestive heart failure and other conditions.
