What is Dox-100 used for?
Dox-100 tablets 100 mg are a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in various parts of the body. Conditions that Dox-100 tablets 100 mg are used for include: chest infections like pneumonia and bronchitis; urinary tract infections; sexually transmitted diseases; Infections due to Chlamydia including uncomplicated urethral, endocervical or rectal infections; some bacterial eye infections like trachoma, caused by Chlamydia. Dox-100 is also used to treat severe acne; and with other medicines to treat intestinal amoebiasis, a parasitic gut infection. Dox-100 is are also used to treat Lyme disease, which is caused by infection with the bacteria Borrelia, transmitted by a bite from the black-legged tick or deer tick and is the most common tick-borne infection in both North America and Europe. Symptoms of Lyme disease include erythema migrans, a circular spreading rash, flu-like symptoms, joint pain and neurological problems. Dox-100 tablets 100mg are also useful for treating infections with Rickettsiae, which is a bacteria transmitted by ticks and lice and causes infections like rocky mountain spotted fever and typhus fever.
How does Dox-100 work?
Dox-100 tablets 100mg contain Doxycycline, which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline group of antibiotics, with antibacterial activity against a wide range of bacteria, including Rickettsiae, Chlamydia, Streptococcus, Haemophilus, Klebsiella, Mycoplasma. Doxycycline in Dox-100 inhibits protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria by blocking the transcription stage, which is reading the protein message from the bacterial RNA. This action prevents the bacteria from producing essential proteins needed for growth, repair and replication and prevents the spread of infection.

What are the side effects of Dox-100?
The most commonly reported side effects when taking Dox-100 include anorexia, diarrhoea, nausea, sore tongue (glossitis), difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), heartburn or indigestion due to irritation of the oesophagus, inflammation of the colon (enterocolitis), swelling and itching in the anal and genital areas, staining of the teeth, loss of tooth enamel.
When should Dox-100 not be used?
You should not use Dox-100 tablets if you:
- are allergic to doxycycline or other tetracycline antibiotics or any ingredients in Dox-100
- are pregnant or are breastfeeding
- are under 12 years of age
- are taking other medication that interacts with Dox-100 tablets, including penicillin antibiotics, barbiturates, phenytoin for epilepsy, the anticoagulant warfarin
- are taking supplements or vitamins that contain iron preparations, which may reduce the absorption of doxycycline
How should Dox-100 be taken?
You should take your Dox-100 tablets 100mg once daily with a glass of water with food, preferably just before a meal, to reduce stomach effects. The dose you take should be as recommended by your doctor, usually 2 tablets on the first day and then 1 tablet for the rest of your prescribed course, which may be a few days or weeks, depending on what you are being treated for. You should continue to take your Dox-100 tablets even if you feel better, until you have completed the prescribed course of treatment.
How long should you take Dox-100?
You should continue to take your Dox-100 tablets for as long as recommended by your doctor, which will depend on what you are being treated for.
Missed dose of Dox-100
If you miss a dose of Dox-100 take it as soon as you remember, unless it is time to take the next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose.
How should Dox-100 be stored?
You should store your Dox-100 below 25°C in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight.
