What is Norflex used for?
Norflex tablets 100mg are used treat skeletal muscle spasm and muscle tension to relieve pain and stiffness caused by a wide range of injuries, including, sprains and strains, prolapsed intervertebral disc, lumbago (lower back pain), fibrositis or fibromyalgia (chronic pain and stiffness in the muscles tendons and joints, with fatigue and sleep disturbances), nonarticular rheumatism (affecting soft tissue such as tendonitis), acute torticollis (spasm and shortening of a muscle in the neck causing the head to become twisted), fractures, anxiety, tension; also following surgery and for the treatment of tension headache and persistent hiccups. Norflex tablets 100mg are also for used for management of chronic and/or recurring pain caused by muscle spasm such as neuropathic pain.
How does Norflex work?
Norflex tablets 100mg contain orphenadrine, which has analgesic and muscle relaxant properties, acting directly on the central nervous system to block transmission of specific nerve impulses, to relieve painful muscle spasm. Orphenadrine in Norflex tablets 100mg has anticholinergic action which means that it blocks the receptors for acetylcholine a neurotransmitter (chemical that allows nerve cells to communicate) that has several excitatory functions including activating skeletal muscle contraction. Norflex tablets 100mg can be used for conditions where reducing muscle spasm can help relieve pain due to a variety of causes, including pain caused by nerve compression, muscle pain, severe headaches.

What are the side effects of Norflex?
The most commonly reported side effects when taking Norflex tablets 100mg are due to the anticholinergic effect and include, dry mouth, tachycardia (rapid heart beat), palpitation, urinary hesitancy or retention, blurred vision, dilation of pupils, increased ocular tension, weakness, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, constipation, drowsiness, hypersensitivity reactions, pruritus, hallucinations, agitation, tremor, gastric irritation.
When should Norflex not be used?
You should not use Norflex tablets 100mg if you:
- are allergic to orphenadrine or any components of Norflex tablets 100mg
- are pregnant or breastfeeding without discussion with your doctor
- have kidney or liver problems
- have glaucoma, intestinal blockage, stomach ulcer or oesophageal disease or myasthenia gravis
- have an enlarged prostate or bladder obstruction
- are drinking alcohol
- are taking medications that may interact with Norflex tablets 100mg, including, other anticholinergics (for stomach cramps or spasms), dextropropoxyphene an opioid analgesic, CNS depressant drugs (such as antihistamine for hayfever or allergy, sedatives or tranquilizers), phenothiazines antipsychotics
How should Norflex be taken?
You should take your Norflex tablets 100mg with a glass of water twice daily, morning and evening, with or without food. You should continue to take your Norflex tablets 100mg for as long as recommended by your doctor and you may be taking this medication in conjunction with other analgesic medications or treatments such as physiotherapy.

Missed dose of Norflex
If you miss a dose of Norflex tablets 100mg take it as soon as you remember, unless it is time to take the next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose.

You should store your Norflex tablets 100mg in a cool dry place below 30°C.
