Revolution Pups & KittensRevolution general information
What is Revolution used for?
Revolution is a topical treatment for puppies and kittens over 6 weeks old and weighing up to 5kg, for prevention and control of flea infestations, ear mite infestations, and infection with the parasitic roundworm. Revolution is effective against all stages of the flea, including the eggs and larvae. It is also effective in controlling flea allergy dermatitis, which can be irritating and cause itching in puppies and kittens sensitive to flea bites, particularly the saliva of the flea, and can cause hair loss and eczema. Roundworm is an intestinal parasite that causes diarrhoea, weight loss and poor condition, particularly in kittens, and can be a hazard to people. Ear mites live in the ear canal of infected puppies and kittens causing irritation and a black wax-like discharge, and are responsible for the majority of ear infections in puppies and kittens. Revolution is also used to treat sarcoptic mange in puppies, which is a skin disease also known as scabies that is caused by a mite that burrows into the skin, causing itching and can lead to infection.
How does Revolution work?
Revolution contains selamectin, an antiparasitic drug that acts as an Insecticide (effective against parasitic insects like fleas and ear mites) and antihelminth (effective against parasitic worms like roundworm). When you apply Revolution to your puppy or kitten, it spreads across the skin and accumulates in the sebaceous glands (oil glands in the skin) and the selamectin is rapidly absorbed through the skin into the circulation, so that it is effective against internal and external parasites. selamectin in Revolution is a neuromuscular blocker that blocks nerve transmission and muscular contraction, causing paralysis and eventual death to the parasite. The fleas and ear mites ingest selamectin when they feed on your pet’s blood; parasitic worms will lose their grip on the intestinal wall while feeding on blood and pass out in the puppy’s or kitten’s stools. Revolution also kills the eggs and larvae of fleas.
What does Revolution contain?
Revolution contains the active ingredient selamectin (60mg/mL), an antiparasitic drug used to control internal and external parasites in puppies and kittens. It also contains dipropylene glycol methyl ether, isopropyl alcohol, butylated hydroxytoluene.
Treating parasites in puppies and kittens with Revolution
Revolution is a fast acting topical treatment used for control of flea infestation, ear mite infestations and infection with the parasitic roundworm; it is also effective in controlling flea allergy dermatitis. Revolution is also used to treat sarcoptic mange or scabies in puppies, which is a skin disease caused by a mite that burrows into the skin, causing itching and can lead to infection. What are the side effects of Revolution?
Revolution is generally well tolerated, however, less than 1% of puppies and kittens treated with Revolution had digestive upset and 1% of puppies and kittens had temporary hair loss at the site of application.
How should Revolution for puppies and kittens be applied?
You should apply Revolution to the back of your puppy’s or kitten’s neck by parting the hair and applying to the skin at one area only, as the lotion will spread rapidly as it is absorbed. Apply the entire contents of one tube of Revolution each month. Do not use on sick, weak or underweight puppies and kittens.
How should Revolution be stored?
You should store your Revolution below 30°C in a cool dry place.
