What is Rozex used for?
Rozex Cream 0.75% is used as a topical treatment for the skin condition rosacea that affects the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin and is characterised by the formation of inflammatory papules (pimples), pustules (spots) and redness, but in extreme cases can cause a bumpy swollen nose and red, watery, irritated eyes. Rozex Cream 0.75% helps to control the inflammation that causes this condition.
How does Rozex work?
Rozex Cream 0.75% contains metronidazole that has antibacterial and antiprotozoal (kills many single cell organisms that cause infections, like giardia) activity and is used to treat the skin condition rosacea, which mostly affects people with fair skin who flush easily. It is thought that overreaction of blood vessels near the surface of facial skin may cause inflammation, triggered by several factors like excess alcohol, smoking, spicy food, exposure to sunlight, among others. Metronidazole in Rozex Cream 0.75% is thought to work by reducing inflammation in the small blood vessels and structures of the skin that contributes to the formation of the rash like symptoms of rosacea, and helps relieve symptoms like spots pimples and redness.
What does Rozex contain?
Rozex Cream contains 0.75% metronidazole as the active ingredient in an oil-in-water cream base containing benzyl alcohol, isopropyl palmitate, glycerol, sorbitol 70% (non-crystallising), emulsifying wax, lactic acid or sodium hydroxide solutions to adjust pH and purified water.
What is the difference between Rozex cream and gel
Rozex Cream 0.75% and Rozex gel contains 0.75% contain the same active ingredient but the cream formula is more suitable for sensitive skin as it absorbs quickly and easily, and has an emollient cream base.

The most commonly reported side effects when using Rozex Cream 0.75% % include, itching, dryness, redness, burning at the site of application, also watery eyes if you get the cream near your eyes. Less common side effects include, nausea, metallic taste and tingling or numbness of the extremities.
When should Rozex not be used?
You should not use Rozex if you:
• are pregnant or may become pregnant
• are taking anticoagulants like warfarin, with discussion with your doctor
• are spending a lot of time exposed to UV in sunlight or using a UV lamp
• are using peeling agents, astringents or irritant products as these may produce additive irritant effects
How should Rozex be used?
You should apply Rozex Cream 0.75% to the affected area of the skin twice daily morning and evening. Clean the skin with a mild soap or soap-free cleanser, rinse with water then apply a small amount with clean fingers and rub gently into the skin. Avoid contact with the eyes or areas of skin near the eyes. Also avoid excess exposure to sunlight or other sources of UV light and do not use astringent cosmetics or creams that may clog pores after you have applied your Rozex Cream 0.75%. You should use Rozex Cream 0.75% for as long as is recommended by your doctor, usually for 3-4 months until your rosacea has cleared up, although this may be extended, depending on the severity of your condition.

Missed dose of Rozex
If you miss an application of Rozex Cream 0.75% apply it as soon as you remember, unless it is time for the next application, then skip the missed application. Do not use a double dose.
How should Rozex be stored?
You should
store your Rozex Gel 0.75% at room temperature at or below 25°C but do not
keep in the fridge or freeze.
