Strone-50 general information
What is Strone-50 used for?
Strone-50 injection is used to prevent miscarriage and help an early pregnancy to continue where there have been previous repeated unexplained miscarriages; or where the body has not produced enough progesterone to maintain the pregnancy due to a luteal phase defect. Strone-50 injection is also used to help with certain infertility treatments, including In-Vitro Ferilisation (IVF) or Gamete Intra-Fallopian Transfer (GIFT). In selected cases Strone-50 injection helps increase the chances that the fertilised egg will successfully implant into the endometrium. Another use for Strone-50 injection is to treat dysfunctional uterine bleeding, which is abnormal bleeding and includes heavy bleeding (menorrhagia), irregular bleeding, spotting mid-cycle, post-menopausal bleeding or no bleeding (amenorrhea). Uterine bleeding disorders are usually due to a hormonal imbalance between oestrogen and progesterone and Strone-50 injection is used to help restore this balance.
How does Strone-50 work?
Strone-50 injection contains progesterone, a hormone that is involved in regulating the normal menstrual cycle and is naturally produced by the ovaries during the second phase or luteal phase of the cycle. It acts on the endometrium (lining of the uterus) converting the proliferating phase to the secretory phase to prepare the endometrium for a pregnancy. This causes the endometrium, which has thickened in response to oestrogen during the first half of the cycle, to stop growing and start secreting hormones and other proteins needed to maintain a pregnancy, if conception occurs; if not, levels of oestrogen and progesterone fall and the endometrium is shed (menstruation). Progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum in the ovary for the first few weeks of pregnancy (8-12 weeks) and once the fertilised egg has successfully implanted into the endometrium, progesterone is produced by the developing placenta to continue the pregnancy. Strone-50 injection helps maintain progesterone at levels that are sufficient for implantation to occur and for a pregnancy to continue to reduce the risk of a miscarriage. Strone-50 injection also helps maintain sufficient levels of progesterone for increasing the success of assisted fertility treatment for infertility; also progesterone in Strone-50 injection helps restore the balance between oestrogen and progesterone to correct uterine bleeding disorders.
What does Strone-50 contain?
Strone-50 injection contains the active ingredient progesterone a naturally produced hormone involved in the normal menstrual cycle and in maintaining a pregnancy. Each ampoule contains 50mg progesterone per 1mL in a medium chain triglyceride oil base with benzyl alcohol as preservative.
Treating threatened miscarriage with Strone-50
Strone-50 injection contains progesterone that is used to help prevent an early miscarriage and help the pregnancy to continue where there have been previous repeated unexplained miscarriages or miscarriage due to insufficient progesterone production to maintain the pregnancy due to a luteal phase defect. Progesterone is a natural hormone produced by the ovaries during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and acts on the endometrium (lining of the uterus) converting the proliferating phase to the secretory phase. This causes the endometrium, which has thickened in response to oestrogen during the first half of the cycle, to stop growing and start secreting hormones and other proteins needed to maintain a pregnancy, following conception. Progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum in the ovary for the first few weeks of pregnancy (8-12 weeks) and once the fertilised egg has successfully implanted into the endometrium, progesterone is produced by the developing placenta to continue the pregnancy. Strone-50 injection helps maintain progesterone levels needed for implantation and to continue the pregnancy to reduce the risk of a miscarriage.
Strone-50 for assisted fertility treatment
Strone-50 injection contains progesterone that is used to help increase the success of assisted fertility treatment for infertility. These include In-Vitro Ferilisation (IVF) or Gamete Intra-Fallopian Transfer (GIFT). Progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum in the ovary for the first few weeks of pregnancy (8-12 weeks) and then once the fertilised egg has successfully implanted into the endometrium, progesterone is produced by the developing placenta to continue the pregnancy. In selected cases Strone-50 injection helps increase the chances that the fertilised egg will successfully implant into the endometrium so that the pregnancy will continue.
